Satelite TV eqipment questions.

Regarding the Dish Pay-as-you-Go program, IF, I repeat: IF you have Dish service at home and IF when you travel no one is using that service at home, then you may want to just add your own Dish RV receiver to your home account as a second receiver in your RV. This costs a mere $7.00 per month... which is barely more than what Dish would charge you if you were to be pausing your home account when traveling anyway. After a few years of Pay-as-you-Go use for my RV, I finally saw the light and did it this way.

I have DISH at home and just take the bedroom receiver with us and connect it to a $200 sat dish I own. In the end adding sat to the camper cost me $200.

My plan was to go with probably Dish because of the free HD and to just use a receiver from the house in the RV. I currently have AT&T U-verse at home. Our contract is up next month and thought we might go with satelite. I was thinking of trying to keep the cost down by not paying the $7 a month for the extra receivers. Not sure that is going to work.

After talking to the boss tonight. Well she says "I am happy with what we have." You know what they say, if Momma ain't happy no one is happy. Guess we will be staying with U-verse for now. We have over 250 DVD's in our home DVD library. We will just be taking DVD's from home.

I have 2 Dish receivers - bought brand new in the box. I also bought the Winegard Pathway X2 sat antenna new, in the box. None of it from Dish. I do NOT pay any kind of 'rental' on anything. I do NOT pay $7/month. Nothing. Zero. Nada. Do NOT need to keep my service for 1-2 years. I own all my 'stuff'. Been using it this way for 2 years now. And I can stop and start as I want.

I suspect, but am not sure, that you are confusing Dish residential plans with Dish RV plans.

For one the op said nothing about pay as you go now did they ?

So ... I have pay as you go , I own my own Stuff . I added a second receiver to my traveler last summer ( one I had bought a211k and son of a gun .. I was charged 7 bucks more .. Now this was last summer but ?

TO THE OP: Regarding Dish (only), you can sign up for pay-as-you-go (PAYG) and purchase your own equipment. You can buy either an auto-aiming antenna like the Tailgater or Pathway, or a fixed, regular sat dish that you have to aim yourself. I chose the Tailgater, $350.

You will also need to buy a VIP 211-k or z reciever, about $150. My strong advice is to purchase both from the Dishformyrv.com website. You will probably pay $40 more total but your equipment will be genuine and have all the latest firmware upgrades.

If you do PAYG, you will pay full price for every month. For me, I have the 200 channels PLUS sports channels PLUS HBO and Showtime and I pay $110/month. I usually disconnect five months out of the year so the price is similar to the 24-month contract prices being offered.

With your own equipment you can still do a 24-month special and get a lower rate per month, but unless you're keeping the PAYG on every month (many, many do), you won't be saving much.

From what I've read on this forum Dish has an edge in service for the RVer, if you have no service now. The programmiing is virtually identical with both, as is the miserable customer service.

the "Residential Customer Agreement" obove doesn't have anything to do with a dish in an RV.

I too bought a dish box with no contract and I only pay when it is turned on.

And under the latest promotion, I do NOT pay for DVR or HD fee at least for two years with DISH.

SO, IF you truly "owned" the equipment then perhaps you can explain the language that I BOLDED above?

They do make it pretty clear that early termination will result in YOU the user having "obligations" with respect to the RETURN of equipment.

Unless otherwise specified in this Agreement or your applicable Promotion Agreement(s), Leased Equipment shall at all times remain the sole and exclusive property of DISH, and we may, without notice at any time and from time to time, replace Leased Equipment with new or reconditioned Leased Equipment, and upon cancellation or disconnection of your Services, remove or require the return of such Leased Equipment. The satellite antenna and mounting hardware (but not the LNBF)are your fixtures, are not Leased Equipment and should not be returned to DISH.
None of the Leased Equipment(or any portion thereof) will be deemed a fixture or part of your real property.

They DO mention "BUYING" your own, but the only true "source" for these receivers IS directly from DISH, they OWN the software to these receivers and you can not buy them new from any other source..

Sure you can find bunches of used ones on Ebay, but you are taking a risk of getting one that was not fully paid for by a previous owner and will not be activated by DISH..

I believe that what you are citing applies to RESIDENTIAL programs.

Under the Dish RV program - 'Pay as You Go', I do not rent anything from Dish. And I do NOT have a 2 year contract. I do NOT have any kind of contract. I own all my own equipment, NOT LEASE.

I've been subscribing to the Dish Pay as you go program for 2 years now.

If you do not believe me, then call them up and ask about the RV Pay As You Go Program.
