With Dish you own, not lease, the equipment. If you go with the dishformyrv monthly pay as you go plan you can start and stop the service on a monthly basis. RVing in June and July but not in Sept thru Oct? No problem. Pay for June and July, then pause the service with no monthly payment until you are ready to start it again. At the extreme you could even use it for only one month per year.
I would suggest you reread the contract FINE PRINT.
You DO NOT "OWN" Dish equipment so to speak UNTIL AFTER THE 24 MONTH (2yr) CONTRACT EXPIRES.
If you cancel anytime BEFORE the 24 months AND YOU WILL PAY A PENALTY.. AND YOU MAY BE OBLIGATED TO RETURN THE EQUIPMENT.
The 24 month part is where YOU are paying for the equipment cost..
IF you have a DVR version you MUST ALSO PAY AN ADDITIONAL DVR MONTHLY FEE..
HERE is the Dish Service aggreement..

Cancellation Policies
.
Although you may cancel your Services at any time by notifying us at the telephone number set forth in Section 1, you may be subject to certain prices, fees and/or charges(including, without limitation, an Early Termination Fee)and you will continue to have obligations with respect to the return of Equipment and certain other obligations as set forth in this Agreement and your applicable Promotion Agreement(s)
. Any cancellation will be effective no sooner than the date that DISH actually receives notice that has been provided in accordance with this Agreement
. SO, IF you truly "owned" the equipment then perhaps you can explain the language that I BOLDED above?
They do make it pretty clear that early termination will result in YOU the user having "obligations" with respect to the RETURN of equipment.
A. Lease Terms. We may choose to lease certain Equipment to subscribers. Unless otherwise specified in this Agreement or your applicable Promotion Agreement(s), Leased Equipment shall at all times remain the sole and exclusive property of DISH, and we may, without notice at any time and from time to time, replace Leased Equipment with new or reconditioned Leased Equipment, and upon cancellation or disconnection of your Services, remove or require the return of such Leased Equipment. The satellite antenna and mounting hardware (but not the LNBF)are your fixtures, are not Leased Equipment and should not be returned to DISH.
None of the Leased Equipment(or any portion thereof) will be deemed a fixture or part of your real property.
I think you will find that ALL "new subscribers" will be LEASING the equipment and therefore the equipment is not "yours".. IT IS THE REASON THEY REQUIRE YOU TO ACCEPT A 24 MONTH AGREEMENT.
They DO mention "BUYING" your own, but the only true "source" for these receivers IS directly from DISH, they OWN the software to these receivers and you can not buy them new from any other source..
Sure you can find bunches of used ones on Ebay, but you are taking a risk of getting one that was not fully paid for by a previous owner and will not be activated by DISH..
It is your money, do what ever you wish to do with it.
