There's a story attached to that, as there usually is..:). We had our remote dish destroyed by a fiver that decided to go off road. Try finding another dish when you need one. I went to a DirecTV store and the lady said they didn't carry them but suggested I find a vacant house and take it off the roof! I said no thanks, bullets hurt. After searching recycling places, I finally found one at a thrift shop. $10....Dennis

Well, for me, I am not full time. Just a regular working stiff that likes to get away in the MH. I have Directv at home. I bought a tripod and dish (HD) for about $100. It came with a low level dish pointer (works great though). I can set it all up in about the time it takes me to drink a beer. I take an HD box from home, and all is good. And if someone steals it, well, I'm only out a bill.

I also had a dome on the roof that was out of date. We decided to get the portable X2 automatic and we are very happy with it. There have been a number of times where a roof mounted dish would have been blocked by trees and we were able to get the signal with the X2. The X2 supports 2 receivers but we only use one. We have an HDMI cable front the front of the coach to the back and have an HDMI splitter in the front of the coach so the HDMI signal out of the received goes to the front and back TV. We have been very happy with the X2.

I've been waiting a loooong time for someone, anyone, to give some authority driven information relative to SD programming being phased out. DirecTV continues to say they have no immediate plans to do so. IMO, there are way too many customers using and happy with, simple SD programming. Much easier to set up SD programming if using a remote dish too. IF someone, especially those who continue to post this info, has some authority driven info, please provide it. Thanks....Dennis

In motion domes are still readily available. No real issues there. Some think the end of DTV SD is near and some think this also means the domes will not longer work with DTV. We actually don't know if the 2 events have anything to do with each other. The domes CAN receive HD as demonstrated by the Dish Network programming (and the reason in-motion domes are not going away). What the dome cannot do is receive the DirecTV programming broadcast on the KA band, only KU band (all of Dish Network). Just because HD "may" be going away does not mean that the KU broadcast on 101 is going away.

I wouldn't buy any replacement dome for Directv. I doubt if you can even buy an in-motion dome, at this point, except for a larger model made for high end boats.

I would spend my money on the 3 LNB Traveler SWM for HD.

do you want standard def or high definition . Make sure you know what you want first. Before spending money.
By the way Direct Tv is phasing out standard def.

In motion satellite is a personal choice but I doubt there are many people that jump in an RV and travel cross country watching TV. If its just the wife and me traveling we don't often even turn on the radio, let alone the TV. In motion for us would be a waste of money because on short trips there isn't enough time to watch a movie and on long trips she likes to sit up front and keep an eye on my driving.
I have 2 Tailgaters. One permanent mount on the roof and one portable and have never been anywhere where we couldn't get signal.

But then I am stuck watching DVD's! There is so much (bad) programming available via satellite I simply could not live without it!
