Satellite RV

We travel six months a year in our RV and the other part of the year stay in our cabin. Up to about 6-7 years ago we used Direct TV, but got so mad at the lack of service, coverage and poor customer support that I dropped them. That was then and this is now. We’ve been using antenna most of the time, and some campground cable but would like to go back to satellite.

What would you suggest for service and equipment? Ideally we would like one set up that we could us in our RV and than move to our cabin.
Thanks

I can't believe anyone would pay for a service contract for fixing rented equipment, or to fix wiring/connections etc that they installed.
Yep, they tried it a couple times, but being a (DTV) customer for 15 yrs, and not under contract, they saw it my way real fast. They even tried to charge me a service call to tell me that it was my tree blocking the signal to their dish. The tree was there before the dish,...they put the dish in the way of the tree, not me !! Don't they know that little trees get bigger ?? I didn't pay.
Oh, the question ?? I don't like either service.

It is nice to call them anywhere I am and get a new receiver within 24 hours free of charge. Or new remotes, or free service calls. Dont really like paying either, but with the newest equipment a failure means no service unless you pay.

No other provider dose that. If you want to talk to some one in India in customer service get Dish

Yep, I have Dish. It does make interesting conversations when I call customer service.
  • We do they exact same thing you used to with DirectTV. Move the receiver from the cabin to the TT. Have two separate dishes. Works great!
  • Not much help but we've always had DirecTV and we are too far into it with a receiver, dome antenna and portable antenna to change. I think the only other option is Dish. You might search this forum for `Dish TV' to read what others state. You might also search for `directv' and then search the results for modifying words like `problem' or `service' etc. to minimize the responses.
  • Personally I like Direc service. But I pay a few dollars a month extra for their service contract. With it I have direct access, and replacement equipment when I have a problem. If you go with Direct and want HD and DVR service, a Winegard Travler is automatic for your RVs roof. This would duplicate the antenna Direct will place on your homes roof. They have a Genie and wireless mini Genies that will allow you to record up to 5 channels at once and watch the programming on more than one TV. Then it is a simple matter to take the equipment to the RV or house.
Dish has similar equipment, the main difference is with Dish you can use one of the portable domes for your RV. Choice is really up to what you like to watch. Direct has better sports packages.
  • Direct TV great coverage and they employee 98% USA citizens for customer service!!!! No other provider dose that. If you want to talk to some one in India in customer service get Dish
