Everything is still working great. I secured all the fittings and hardware up on the roof for the trip home.
I'm still going to replace ALL of that stuff up there with the new compression fittings AND the nice rubber boots I bought from Ohio. This time, I'm going to go find 'dielectric grease' to seal the boots with, rather than silicone, going on advice I've received.
Does anyone else have an opinion on silicone vs dielectric grease? I still think my silicone sealed fittings would have worked for a good while, even though they were the old-fashioned crimp type fittings. However, I tore them out trying to troubleshoot the problem, so I might as well upgrade.
The di-electric grease does not go outside or inside the rubber boot. The grease goes inside the F-connector where the center coax wire is located. As the connection is tightened all air and moisture is excluded and the space filled with the non-conductive grease. I don't just a boot or that gooey tape as the fitting is already sealed.
