Solar Panels installed at camping world

So I'm thinking of getting a solar panel installed at camping world for primarily maintaining my batteries when I'm parked in storage. Has anyone had this done and are they happy with what they had done?

  • I would have to know the placement and size of the panel, routing of the wire, and connection of the controller. No way would I blindly say to slap on fifty watts and trust them. Or anyone for that matter.
  • I'm more concerned about how they install the pieces. I was thinking camping world because they install in RV's all the time. Am I wrong? Naturally I'm concerned about making it leak proof, and the wiring done in a way that it is all hidden. What I'm really looking for is a way to keep my batteries up during storage times. I have two 6 volt batteries for a combo of 12 volts. However, after reading Don's Solar Spread Sheet maybe I should be looking bigger, but again, I concerned about the quality of the installation.
  • Hi,

    Camping World seems to sell really high priced solar products. You might be much better off finding a local solar installer, and see what they charge for it.

    SolaronSale.com has a installation department in Victorville CA, not far from your home.

    You can also check HomePower.com for a list of installers in several states. Solar On Sale has been advertizing there for over 18 years, I bought my pair of 120 watt solar panels from them in 1999, and had them repair my inverter a couple of years earlier.

  • Hi,

    I added solar--but not at camping world. I suggest you find a solar installer. Here is a simple flow chart.

    Budget-->Energy Audit-->Battery bank size-->number of watts-->PWM or MPPT.

    Here is a link to the rather special spreadsheet that N8GS has created to help size solar battery charging systems!
