Suction Cop Mounts

Both my Garmin GPS and the screen for my rear view cameras are mounted to my windshield. I clean the area where the suction cups will go, clean the suction cups and moisten the cups as I install.

They stay on for maybe a week or so and then they fall off.

What am I doing wrong? What can I do to get the suction cups to stick?

Thanks.
  • The only way I know is to use superglue or some other sticky stuff. And since that is a bad idea, and besides they're illegal in some states, I use a beanbag mount for my Garmin. It moves around a little but not enough to be annoying.
  • I have had the same problem. Nothing I did made it better so I learned to live with it.
Maybe that is why I've been married for 50 years.
  • I tried glycerin as a moistening agent and it may of may not have helped. I think it did.
  • I got tired of dealing with the suction cup issue so here's what I did...

    1) One of these for the RV760 in the well on the dash (2012 F350):

    Garmin friction mount

    2) One of these for the rear view monitor on a vent to the right of the OEM nav unit:

Vent mount (Although a slightly larger version from Best Buy).

  • The suction cup mount for my GPS was failing due to age, the suction cup was drying out and cracked. I searched eBay and found a new one for my GPS for $4.75 with free shipping. It now works great.
  • What is a "suction cop"? Checks to make sure your vacuum is working properly?
  • Heat is the culprit. As the suction is lost as the 'cup' heats up and before long it drops. I went to the suction mount directly on the dash, but still have to remove the unit from the mount when parked in the sun.

    LOL.

I notice, so often, an OP will misspell words in the Subject, but then correctly spell in the post. It's weird. I'm not sure they know they can edit that.
