Switched to Dish - Now What?

Thanks Big Katuna, for the info on the eastern arc. Since almost all of our traveling is either west or south of Indiana, we should be fine with just the western arc, so no worries there. As for changing the locals, I was assured that as long as we were tagged as 'Dish Outdoors' customers in their system, we could change locals regardless of whether we also have service at our S&B home. Having said this, I've yet to try it. So, I guess we'll just have to see. One thing I have found with DISH is while their technology is good and their people polite and generally helpful, it is hit and miss when it comes to getting someone who really knows their stuff when it comes to using their stuff on the road.

I tried to change locals with the app but it wouldn’t let me as I had home equipment.
I didn’t try to call them.

You can also reauthorize your box if it’s been sitting.

Thanks to everybody - I just confirmed with Dish that's exactly what they do. They bill you upfront for the service and when you cancel you've got a credit.

You don't get exactly billed, you pay up front for a month. If you don't want the service for the whole month, you call and cancel. DISH then holds a credit balance of the unused days. When you call and reactivate, you top-up your credit balance to a full month.

If you let the month run out then DISH will automatically stop the service.

Go to DishForMyRV.com there you will see most of the answers for your questions. 2nd receiver Wally of 211Z pay as you go or $7.00 more per month as a 2nd receiver.

OP again - so - if I get this, I can use my home receiver as long as I use a standard sticks and bricks antenna.

That being said, a receiver (like a 211) can work with a automatic antenna.

How does the billing with the pay as you go work? I know it's like 59.95 a month but if you enable the service for a month, use it for a weekend,and then cancel the service do you get billed the full amount or do you just get charged for the number of days you use it?

You could have a Hopper 2 or 3. Here's a photo of both. The Hopper 2 is on top. The Hopper 3 has a red stripe around its base.



Let us know which one you have as the Hopper 2 & 3's have different sat dish requirements.

This is not correct. The Hopper will not work with any of the dome style antennas but work perfectly with the auto roof mounted full sized antennas. It will also work perfectly with a ground base, tripod mounted home style antenna.
You do not "need" a Wally or 211z unless you plan to use one of the domes. Bring your Hopper with you, just ensure you get the right antenna!

You are correct I should have clarified further and said it will not work with the auto dome dishes.
