- theoldwizard1Explorer IIIf you don't use any fancy 3rd part products, the answer is YES !
There are are an amazing amount of systems around still running XT !! - pianotunaNomad IIII have some software that doesn't work past win 7. I have 3 back up laptops configured to dual boot xp and win 7.
When 2020 comes or when support for win 7 is finally dropped, I'll bite the bullet and go back to using "sneaker net" to get data into xp or win 7. - coolmom42Explorer IIJust go ahead and upgrade to 10. It works just fine.
- Ed_GeeExplorer III like WildToad's suggestion. I do have an iPad which does pretty much all email and WEB browsing stuff I need, but quite frankly, for those of us who need rather specialized software for our hobbies or work, the tablets simply don't have it available. As a ham radio operator there is far too much software I use that is not available at all for either Android or IOS systems. In fact much of what I want to use is not available for Linux either.
- wildtoadExplorer IIQuite frankly unless you have software today the requires win 7, I'd just bite the bullet and move on to current stuff. Better yet get an IPad and be done with Windows.
- monkey44Nomad IIIf you don't need a web service for the PC, use it and leave it off the web. If you need access for email or other news scripts, there are plenty of phone apps out there to do that.
I bought a new Win7 LT several months ago - I use it for work only and its never been on the web and never will be. I use a different (older) PC for the web and that's all it does.
I expect to use this new Win7 PC as long as I choose ... it will never have a "virus" and will never need updates as long as it works like it does now.
There are so many ways to access the web today, no one needs a PC to do it, and we can transfer data to nearly anywhere with a Cell Phone (Like Android). - K_CharlesExplorerMy desktop still works on Windows 98.
- road-runnerExplorer IIIHard to tell the future. I've got 2 laptops still surviving fine on XP, yet I can see the PC cartel doing something to push everybody onto annual subscription windows. If you don't need to run windows-only apps, consider Linux. For web browsing, email, office apps, and numerous other things, operating it is pretty similar to windows. I guess Ubuntu is the most widely used flavor. I use Linux Mint Cinnamon, which IMO has a better UI.
- Chris_BryantExplorer III've survived 16 years now without any Windows, but I wouldn't count on using Win7 after Jan. 2020, when support ends.
