Thunderbird Email Users...

If you want to save the stuff, make a folder to save it to. Trash is trash.

I used to use Thunderbird. It was and still is one of the best stand alone email clients. But there are better solutions out there now...

Do you have an Android smartphone and/or tablet? A better mail client is Inbox by Gmail.

No need to change your current email address. Just open a Gmail account (if you don't already use Gmail), forward all your email to your Gmail account, set Gmail's replay address as your current email address, then use Inbox by Gmail for your mail on your phone or tablet. Use the web page on your Windows machines, it looks and works exactly like the Android app. I won't go back to what I used to use.

Not sure exactly what you have going on there but here is a viable workaround..In Thunderbird,Account Settings / Server Settings,you can set up so what you delete goes to a folder of your choice versus the "Trash" folder. Have Thunderbird send your deleted emails to a folder other then Trash and the deleted emails will not be emptied from Trash cause they won't be in that folder.

By the way it may be a setting you have at your actual email service provider that is causing the emails to be deleted when you delete them in Thunderbird.

I have my mail accounts set to Empty Trash. So I will not be able to help you.
Once I trash it, I no longer want it.

Under "Disk Space" check to see if you have "Don't Delete any messages" checked.
