- mlts22Explorer IIThe update pain won't be felt today... it will be felt starting in May or June when the bad guys start disassembling updates in the subsequent patches and see if they work on XP.
I'm sure there will be some AV maker who will sell a product whose sole purpose is to try to help keep XP protected, although in the meantime, I'd move from MSE to Bitdefender, Malwarebytes, or another highly rated program. - bwanshoomExplorer

Specifically, no more security updates including to Microsoft Security Essentials (although this product has been shown to be very inadequate in any case.) There haven't been any meaningful functional updates in years and for the past several years it's only been security fixes.
What does "support" means? No more updates? - 2oldmanExplorer IIWhat does "support" mean? No more updates?
- wa8yxmExplorer IIII keep seeing all the warnings and such... I just had to call Mickey Soft cuss-some-more support due to a problem with my 8.1 machine (It had to be reset and one piece of Microsoft software would not re-install post-reset) Well while the reset tool was running we chatted about security, actually while setting it up, I mentioned the Anti-Malware I have,, (Actually it mentioned itself when it ask for permission for the tech to connect and install,, I had to triple approve) And the fire wall I use.
He mentioned Windows Defender,, Microsoft's entry into the field.
Turns out... The software I use, is rated much higher than MSs stuff, and of course it is still fully supported.
That said.. Next time I have a couple hundred spare dollars, one XP machine is going by by. the other one.. I'm not so sure abut but one machine has never really had the horses it needs and is made by a company I do not like and I'm spoiled by the power of this Tosh Im using now.
I'd like to get my R-52 back but I am not sure the shop I sent it to even exists any more.. Perhaps this fall. - The_TexanExplorer3 major accounts running XP, including Britain have told MS to continue support or they will switch to a different OS brand. I don't think support will end today.
- GordonThreeExplorerSo far, the world has not ended... I think Y2K was supposed to destroy the world as well, still waiting for that.
- bwanshoomExplorerXP will be included in April's Patch Tuesday (today, 4/8), but that will be the last time.
- dalejiw25ExplorerXP ?? I think that was released sometime way back in the late 1900s. Although antiquated, still somewhat useable and collectable for nostalgic reasons. Hope this helps. lol
- 1775ExplorerA story on CBS radio news yesterday was that the State of CT has 40% of its government computer systems are running XP (and cannot change) and is currently negotiating with Microsoft for continued support for Windows XP at a considerable sum of money. Many businesses still use XP because of industry specific and custom written software that are required for the industry and cannot just make a change. I suspect that a number will follow CT and start paying Microsoft (who seems happy to talk where cash is involved) for XP support.
- btd35ExplorerX what???!!!
