I am surprised to see Lenovo as high as it is for defects, I work for a LARGE company in IT (we manage about 30,000 Lenovo PCs/Laptops) and other than idiots spilling coffee in them or dropping them, it's nearly unheard of to see anything wrong with their Thinkpads (we are on a 4 year replacement cycle, so we don't see many past that age though).
I have virtually no experience dealing with warranty service or technical support, though have owned notebooks made by DELL, Toshiba, SONY, IBM(Lenovo), HP, Compaq, and Apple. Going strictly by Net user reviews, most all manufactures appear to rate just fair with customer support and repair issues. The exception may be Apple?
But the one and only time I've ever contacted technical support for any computer under warranty, was for an IBM(Lenovo) notebook. It had a startup issue, something I would normally tackle myself, but didn't want to open the case as it was still under warranty. So I called IBM, and technical support couldn't resolve the issue over the phone, and wanted me to send it in for repair.
The next day, I received a prepaid return shipment box via FedEx overnight to pack the notebook - floating type. FedEx then picked up the packed notebook at my house.
IBM factory repair received my notebook early morning the following day, and shipped it back overnight FedEx the same day. I received it the following morning, so had it back good as new in just 3 days.
Needless to say, I was completely blown away by IBM warranty service. But have no idea if Lenovo has kept up with similar customer service?
