Tv & Internet provider

I'm in need of good advice before I purchase a new dish. Currently have an older roof top mounted Wineguard road king satellite receiver, not HD. It's about useless. Any suggestions on what to replace it with? Also need Internet and a good provider for both.
Anybody have a recommendation ?
Thanks for your input
  • Split your thinking out to 2 separate areas of interest.
No satellite TV antenna/dome with get you internet service. There is a possibility that a satellite internet antenna might be capable of receiving TV service but this is an expensive and somewhat clumsy option.
For internet service you will be best served by one of the major cellular provider. I dumped Verzion due to high cost but they do have the best coverage. T-Mobile (especially if you are over 55) has great pricing and excellent coverage.
For satellite TV your King Dome should work and will give full HD if you switch to DISH and it's working properly. If you want to stay with DirecTV (my preference) and you want HD then you either need a Trav'ler ($$$) mounted on the roof or a home style antenna mounted on a tripod beside the coach which you manually point at each new location (pretty cheap).
  • directv. Winnegard satellite system setup for SWM system. Use the Gemie. I like it. verizon mifi for internet.
  • Internet is not a function of any satellite tv service.
  • Just got a Winegard Pathway X2 and a Wally. There were a lot of threads in the tech section here about this and the Pathway came out as most recommended. There was some buzz about the RF Mogul, but at $2000, it had better make up programming if it can't get a signal.

FMCA has a Verizon Wireless deal. Hotspot for a penny and unlimited data for $50 a month. They throttle above 25 gig, but people who have this say they really don't notice the difference.

Do not try to sign up for the VZW deal on you existing account. Use another email when you sign up for the FMCA deal. That's 6 hours of my life I'll never get back.
  • We currently use Verizon for internet while traveling. Between the 2 cell phones and the mi-fi, we spend about $150 a month, unlimited data and text.

For TV we usually can get 20+ local channels off the HD crank up antenna. Most of the time we get the 4 major networks plus PBS.

We also have a Netflix account to watch movies and older programs. I know that a 1.5 hour movie on Netflix at 1080p will use 4GB of data...but with unlimited data, it really doesn't matter how much a movie or program uses. Verizon will throttle you back to 3G service once you reach 22GB, but we have never got to that point.
  • If your using Dish network, any of the domes on the parket will work. Pathway seems to be the current favorite. As for internet, the best option appears to be Verizon unlimited. Not cheap, but decent coverage almost everywhere.
