Tv external wiring

I guess during the exciting moments of purchasing a brand new camper we didn't realize it didn't have an external hookup for tv cable. We have purchased a portable satellite and trying to figure out how to hook it up. We are 2 hrs away from closest CW and honestly don't want to leave it there for 2 months for a 1 hr fix. Any suggestions?

The cable in the trailer is most likely RG-59 This is not really recommnded for sat antennas but may work if not too long.. RG-6 is suggested.

    Now... What I recommend

Run a cable (RG-6) from a handy Bulkhead connector you install on the service (Driver's) side of the trailer... To the Sat receiver compartment..

Then either run the coax out on the sat receiver (IF ANY) to either the center connction on the back of a wall plat (12 volt outlet... Antenna fitting,,, Switfch and LED,, likely near Main TV) or back to the PARK CABLE in Now the switch plate selects ANT/SAT.

NOTE:if you have only one TV just feed it with HDMI and forget that coax out to TV lead.

Note 2:There is a better (but more complex)option as well.

IF you want to use the existing cable.....

Remove wall plate (IF you have it, if not see BOMB below)

    Remove center cable

Using a multi meter or other means insure it is the park-cable lead

IF so... Extend it to the LNB jack on sat receiver
And optionally... IF receiver has coax out..Run that back to the plate

Re-mount plate (You will need to modify to get cables in and out)

BOMB (Box of many buttons,,Properly called Matrix Switch)

Find the CABLE lead on the back..Treat as above..ONLY run the return lead to SAT.
  • IMO you're better off without one. The two TTs we've had had them, and they were a headache. As suggested, and drill a hole and run your own RG6.
  • That's crazy. I thought all RVs had a cable input in the water bay or power bay.
And I run my sat in through mine on every RV I have ever had. You just need to make sure there are no splitters or amps between the cable and the sat box.

One RV didn't have room for a sat box where the cable came out so I ran a new one.
I bought a 50 cable, found a hole in the firewall behind the dash and ran it up a corner pillar to the sat box and coiled up the excess in the front engine compartment.

Open the hood and bring the cable out. Usually long enough to reach the sat dish.
  • Run the cable through a slide wiper, a window, or, do what I did.. drill a hole and put a cable plate on it. This forum is for technical support for the forum itself. I do wish they'd change the link title.
  • Typically, you can't use the external cable port for satellite anyway.
When using our portable, we run the cable through a window. Cheap, easy fix.

Sorry, I should qualify this with - you can't use the external cable port with an automatic portable like tailgator or pathway.
