It's primitive alright. I had a portable (12v) 5.5 inch color TV back in the early 1990's for my use in 1984 tent-trailer.

There are several answers to your question.

1: Bad cable, low quality cable (The shorter cable has less loss)
2: Bad cable, someone drove a staple through it
3: Bad cable, end not firmly attached
4: Differences in the TVs
5: Bad splitter

NOTE: many campgrounds are on the ragged edge TV wise.. so even good quality cable may exhibit enough loss to not make it to the bedroom.

The first thing I would check is make sure you have the splitter hooked up correctly. It is very common for people to actually have the input from antenna going into the out on the splitter. I just bought my RV and it was hooked up that way. I am a cable guy and I see it all the time!

Next check fitting to make sure there is no braiding touching the center conductor. This will cause massive signal loss.

You definitely want to buy a long cable and barrel directly to line coming from the antenna. Try both tvs separately. If they work fine you will know it is splitter, wall plate, or cable line that is the problem.

Also make sure it is a 2-way splitter with 3.5db loss on each leg.

Your problem could be the cable, but it's most likely the difference in the tuners

Hi, A splitter does just that, it splits the signal strength. Part to one and part to the other. some splitter output are not the same. Check the marking on the splitter they could say 6db or 3db, the higher the better.

If you only use one TV at a time you may want a cable switch!
