Tv when tailgating, need tips?

Can anyone help me understand what I can do to improve my access to televised shows when tailgating at football games, without creating s big expense given the rare instances for which I need this? To date, I have simply connected a basic $10 antenna to the tv but given the limited nearby broadcasts, I'm only getting 3 channels. At home and in the big city, I get tons of channels over the air.

I don't want to get a disc and I don't have direct tv, I do have spectrum formerly brighthouse for my cable. This allowed me to feed a hotspot from my phone to my iPad and then connect using hdmi but competition for cell service causes screen freezing and drop coverage.

Maybe the simple answer is some kind of amplified antenna to get longer distance. I only need this 2 times a year so not looking to make much of an investment somyour guidance is appreciated.

Do you take your camper and does it have an antenna?

City is Tallahassee Florida so would certainly think I could get more than 3 channels but I can't. I do. Or use a camper here.

If I were to use a medium size deep cycle battery with inverter instead of the Honda 2000, how much run time for a small to med led tv? Or is there a better power source.

Antenna is a basic indoor rca antenna.

describe the antenna you're using. is it meant to be installed on the roof of a home or is it some form of indoor antenna?
  • A few years back when I built my house, I had a large outdoor antenna , which was promptly taken away by strong winds. This little antenna Is what I replaced it with, and it has been far better than the big one.

You can mount it on a straight section of antenna tubing attached to your ladder with a hose clamp.
I get 17 stations at home, over 70 miles from any stations.
  • Unless you are willing to pay for a satellite television service where you can subscribe to a pay-per-view sports event or to a specific station that specializes in your sport event of choice, then you are left at the mercy of the local broadcasts wherever you are at. If there are none in the area, (if it were possible), all the 'boosing' possible will still not bring anything more in.

Your next option is with your cell phone WIFI (hotspot) and maybe a service you can use through it. But you may have to beef-up your plan for an unlimited data usage too.

  • I tried Sling and it worked ok but you need a good internet signal.
