Thanks for catching that - it might help me if I look for a new dongle as the solution that fj12ryder concurs as a leading culprit. The Linksys WUSB adapter is dual band, FWIW. The 5 yr comment was to provide techies w/ as much data as I could. The linksys router seems to be happily spewing the broadband to laptops and a smartphone.
Late yesterday, for the 1st time in about 3 days, the desktop, after restart, DID connect to the untouched router, albeit after maybe 20 seconds of searching. It behaved similarly this morning coming out from hibernation...then it saw its shadow (oops, got carried away in an Animal Planet moment :) )
