Update: wifi router only connects if unplug/plug power

Well, I could try to makr this interesting for all, but I’m afraid only the deep-in-the-weeds techies will find it so… Moved our cable modem and Linksys WRT54G2 dual band router 30 ft and 3 interio...

I am no computer guru but the status of "54MBS Signal Strength Excellent" is meaningless on my XP laptop.

It always says 54 Mbbs and excellent even when I'm using my USB modem with only 1 bar and dropping in an out.
The only thing for sure is, I am connected or not connected.

I guess you have tried right click on the try icon view available networks and connecting that way. That usually works for me when I (very rarely)drop out.
