Based on leads from the handful of RV.netters who helped me with this - thanks very much - I did everything from successfully upgrading firmware, channel changes, and was about to load DD-WRT, when the router’s need for a reset power to connect w/ PC started to be just a matter of hours, rather than the whole day or two which worked when left the old ‘04 HP desktop on all the time.
And, the Dell Win 8 laptop akso lost its connection for 1st time, which sealed the fate of my old WRT54G2.
Got a Netgear N 300 WRN2000, and speed test went from an occasional high D/U of 17/12 Mbps, to 25/15. Video quality seems a little better also.
I am glad I have 802.11 n on the linksys adapter I bought a few years back. I had no idea what the 'n' meant then (not that I really do now). The wondows bubble that pops up when you hover over the wireless connection icon in the tray now says 130 Mbps instead of 54).
