Welcome, all newcomers, to my problem!
I think I've addressed all the recent suggestions, here.
Yesterday Cox phone tech support said their phone test showed my a Scientific America (Cisco) modem and the Linksys router both working right, FWTW. Even though the router is acting up.
Well, I put the new NETGEAR back in charge overnite hardwired to Tivo and wireless to my desktop 30 ft. away and left computer on. Router stayed connected and I got on internet straight off in morning. Left the computer on and went to watch weather on TV for a while, came back and NETGEAR had disconnected, and I had to reset power to get a reconnect, as all the WinXP software manuevers couldn’t bring the devices together as has been happening w/ Linksys router also..
Tried to do the firmware update thinking they had a bug w/ this v4 of the WRN2000. The NETGEAR control software couldn’t pull it off (a sad mix of your browser, wizards, and decades-old DOS-like router screens for IEEE experts). My attempt to restore with the little button failed also, and though the software did try to do some more, it didn’t work…back it goes.
Linksys is back on the job in the living room. Based on what’s been said about using the elec wires as an ethernet cable, I will maybe start out by borrowing or buying a long cable, bring cable modem and the old Linksys back to the cable connection in the bedroom and lay the cable on the floor to the Tivo for a few days of testing.

Now, here is where I am starting to see the problem: I go in attic and unplug the SV-A15PRS 15db RF amplifier that pushes the TV and internet some 30’ from the bedroom side over to the living room cable outlet. This causes very poor TV and NO internet in living room, BUT the internet is still good at the cable outlet in the bedroom.
I think the amp is old (and attics here are hot), and this may be the issue.
Cox said it would cost $70 for a tech to come check the amp, which I told them was $20 (I think).
If a few days having modem and router back where they always was, and a cable from modem to Tivo seem to solve the problem of router disconnecting each day and requiring power reset, I will apologize to the little Linksys WRT54G2, maybe get brave enough to work in the attic laying a cable, or chicken out and get the Actiontec power link.
Any thoughts, esp w/r amplifier.
