Upgrade garmin 750 with garmin Express?

I have two Garmin GPSs with both registered with Garmin Express. The Garmin 52 connects to my laptop, is recognized immediately; and begins download. My 750 does not show the computer connection and just turns on for normal GPS operation while Garmin Express continues to search for it. What do I need to do? Anybody else had this problem? Thanks!
  • The 750 operates when the USB cord is plugged in? That's pretty strange.

When I plug in a USB plug, whether just power, or connected to a computer, my Nuvi 750 just goes into battery charge mode. It won't boot up unless the plug to the cradle is plugged into power.
  • Try rebooting with the 750 plugged in. If that doesn't work call Garmin, they are very helpful.
  • It looks to me like the 750 uses Web Updater and not Garmin Express. My old Street Pilot used that as well even once Garmin Express became available.
  • Garmin Express sees my Nuvi 750 with no issues, but it has to be plugged into the mini USB port on the Nuvi, not the port on the cradle.
  • I had this problem with one of mine and Garmin was very helpful. You must use a data cable, not just any power cable.

That's the answer! the port on the cradle is the power port and the one on the bottom of the unit is for the computer. Wondered why I had two cables with different size plugs. Thanks again-love this forum!
  • Are you using the USB cable supplied by Garmin. My Garmin cable is labled as such and works just fine with my Nuvi 750. If I use a non-Garmin cable, it powers up, but the memory contents are not recognized by the computer.
  • Glad you got it figured out, I really like my old Nuvi 750 and now use it on the motorcycle since I have a new one for the truck.
