Verizon increases hotspotting to 15G

Just got an email from Verizon that stated:

"Second, as part of our new Unlimited plan choices, we are introducing Beyond Unlimited. This plan has all the benefits of your current plan, plus an increase to 15GB of Hotspot usage at 4G LTE speeds. So you can do even more with your unlimited data across all your devices.

And because you’ve been with us from the beginning, we’re upgrading your plan to include the additional Beyond Unlimited plan benefits at no additional cost. We’ve already updated your plan; there’s nothing you need to do!"

Not as good as the FMCA plan would have been if Verizon hadn't nixed it, but more is always better.
  • I hope so since they lowered the video rate you can get and add 2 additional unlimited plans. The lowest unlimited plan is strictly limited to 22GB before being slowed down, the next level is 22GB at full speed and reduced speeds "if" you are on a congested network and a 3rd unlimited business plan that I can't find any good information about.
At the same time that they limited the unlimited plan they increased the 10GB limit to 15GB when it really should be 22GB just the same as every other phone line.
  • Would love to get rid of them, but they are the only reliable cell service where we go on the Gulf coast. Tried AT&T and their coverage just doesn't work for us.
  • Hadn't checked since they told me I would not be charged extra. They want $50 per line (if you have 4 lines) as opposed to $40 per line for their original "unlimited" plan. If you only have one device, it's $75 and $85. We have 5 devices so we get the $40 rate for each device. I will have to keep an eye on the bill to make sure that it doesn't magically get switched to the $50 rate. Wouldn't put it past VZW.
  • Currently have a 24 gig plan and thought about switching to unlimited until I found out our Jetpack would be throttled at 10.

While 15 is better, it's nowhere near the 24 that we would like, so we'll just stick with our current plan.
  • My wifes phone has been on the Verizon unlimited plan since Feb, monthly cost with veteran discount is $84. We use PDAnet to activate hotspot. Average monthly use has been 130GB+.
If she has been slowed down, we have never noticed.
  • So between the wife and I we have 30gb of hotspot data. When using the laptop I use easy tether pro which uses data but not hotspot data. I can always use that and turn on the mobile hotspot on the laptop as well, which again does not use hotspot data. Thats more than enough for us.
