Visible Phone Hotspot

Can anyone recommend a router to wirelessly connect to my Visible smart phone to enable me to use more than one device at a time?
  • Hopefully this will enlighten some folks.

Most of Visible's smart phones allow only one connection to the phone's hotspot. It appears that iPhones are an exception.

You can connect to a wireless router either by a USB cable or with a WiFi connection. The router will allow you to connect to multiple devices. The SIM remains in the phone. The router is the only device connected to the phone's hotspot.

Visible limits the hotspot data speed to 5 Mb/s. There is a hack that you can apply to the router that disables the limit. This might violate Visible's terms of service.

Here's a link to a lengthy thread on iRV2 forum:

  • As mentioned, per their terms of service, Verizon Visible only allows one device connected to hotspot at a time. Some have taken the Visible SIM card and placed it in a mobile hotspot. The problem with doing so is if Verizon detects that you're using Visible on a hotspot device, they will disable and cancel your account. This has been documented on other forums.
  • From a tech trade rag:

"Visible limits mobile hotspot data speeds to 5Mbps—most carriers don’t have speed limits for hotspot usage.

Visible only allows you to connect one device at a time—the single connection makes sense, though, considering that the 5Mbps speeds don’t really support multiple devices."

  • I have had Visible since May of 2019 and it has served me well. Here's a link to a document posted by gsgriffin on the iRV2 forum describing how to set up a Visible phone and using a GL.iNet router:

Towards the end of the document he describes how to circumvent the 5Mb/s data rate limit.

I am using the GL.iNet GL-MT1300 Beryl router and it works great.

  • I use a GL.iNet GL-AR750S-Ext got from Amazon - https://www.amazon.com/GL-iNet-GL-AR750S-Ext-pre-Installed-Cloudflare-Included/dp/B07GBXMBQF/ref=sr_1_2?crid=1N9ZLRSTC09EU&keywords=GL.iNet+GL-AR750S-Ext&qid=1666784073&qu=eyJxc2MiOiIxLjY1IiwicXNhIjoiMS4zNyIsInFzcCI6IjAuOTMifQ%3D%3D&sprefix=gl.inet%2520gl-ar750s-ext%2Caps%2C142&sr=8-2&ufe=app_do%3Aamzn1.fos.006c50ae-5d4c-4777-9bc0-4513d670b6bc

I can use it tethered to my phone or connected via wifi and then all devices in the RV use the same network. Also use it with a Verizon MyFi with Visible chip.

My smart phone allows multiple (Adjustable) connecitons as well Different phones different limits.

No router I know wirelessly connects to the phone and allows you to "multiply" however... a 2 device system does.. I used a Umbiquiti Nano station wi-fi Clinent to hook both to park Wi-fi and to my phone when needed (NOTE there is a setting on the thing I often had to change.. forget what it was)

This device is kind of a "Wi-fi modem" then i plugged a standard home router (I DO NOT recommend belkin routers for this) into the LAN port on the Nano...
now the home router allows many connections... and some of 'em hae "Guest" accounts as well.. the Nano connected to the phone (one connection) or park so all were happy.

Oh and the Nano. atop a flag pole.. MAJOR range improvement connecting to the park's router.
  • …. I have an iPhone and there’s no issue with others connecting through it, no router required. Maybe check the settings on your phone? Through my settings I can allow others access to the internet. I’ve had Visible for several years.
  • Kountrygue,

My smart phone allows up to 5 items to connect.

    I don't use visible.
