We have a couple Rokus, and a couple Chromecasts, one of which lives in the 5er. We use them about 50/50. We have had the Roku longer, and it gives a more "polished" user experience. It is like clicking on an app on your smartphone. The Chromecast is "clunkier". You have to select something to watch on your "device", then click on the "Cast" icon on your device, then wait for it to connect via wifi, but it is not connected to or through your device. After doing that, the Chromecast works very well.
I lean towards the Roku, but the Chromecast can also turn my TV into a huge picture frame, using my photos from Google Photos, which is really cool, in my opinion.
With all that being said, we do have an ATT unlimited hotspot (Mobley), so data useage isn't a concern for us.
