Why no TV signal?

I tried connecting my longer wire from the LNB to the power inserter without success. The receiver still insists all tuners are seeing 0 signal.

@sljkansas: tried direct to the power inserter and w/o splitter. Does nothing different. No signal. I know the power is getting to the LNB. Besides I have successfully used this setup for Dish that requires the same thing - there are no splitters in the wiring for the camper. It goes directly to the front cabinet where there is a setup box which I have effectively discarded.

@donn0128:well, I suppose so. I have never been able to just set the dish and have it work, but I am not familiar with Directv setup. And I really doubt that the LNB is working. I know the power is getting to the LNB, but I have no way other than the Directv setup to find the satellite since my simple device does not seem to work. I usually am able to move the dish from side to side and a little up or down and locate one of the satellites, then hone in on it from there, but that does not seem to work with this Directv setup. I get nothing period.

I verified that the cables are all R6, the Flair has a sticker on the tv input that says 'satellite ready' and like I said I used this for Dish HD already and it worked, so I'm thinking that I got a bad LNB.

I'll return home and substitute these parts for the ones at the house (once I get it working there again) and see if the LNB works in my house dish, the power inserter works etc.. and also see what the part numbers are. If I choose something other than 17, it switches it back to 17 during the process.

The parts for the camper setup should be the same at least that is what I thought that I bought. I would like one of those powered satellite finders, but it is so expensive. One guy says that he uses the sound from the setup of directv to listen while he adjusts - that is great, except I get absolutely no signal.

dan-nickie said RG9 but has edited it to say RG6. I guy he-she typo-ed.

I think I see your problem. If you are using the "CABLE" coax, it usually will have a splitter or two in the line, and the splitter will not pass the voltage required to the LNB. try running a coax straight from the LNB to the receiver and see if that works.

It sounds like you need to do a dish alignment. Just setting it according to dishmpointer will not do it. I use three different tools to get my signal in a hurry.

@sdianel: yes storms will affect the signal, but this has been happening for a longer time - the storms aren't it! Anyway, the storms missed us at the campground, but we don't know about our home yet!

As I said, we have used this for HD on Dish Network with no problems. I usually can locate the satellites without difficulty. This time my satellite finder (a simple cheapie) just sits there with a low whistle and every few seconds makes a louder sound. No increase or decrease as I turn the dish or move it up or down.

Last night I connected the wire directly to the power inserter from the LNB stub. Today I will try direct from the LNB to the power inserter.

donn0128: re signal - that is the problem, for some reason the receivers see no signal. Nada. At first I got the 771 error then once I got a 775 error. But no signal. The power is reaching the wire connected to the LNB (I use a short one from the LNB with a union to the main coax). The main coax connects to the RV cable-in (which I successfully used for Dish in the past) and that goes to the power inserter's power to LNB connector. From there I have a short coax to the splitter (which I have since removed) and then to the receiver. With the splitter removed, the line from the 'to IRD' output on the power inserter is connected directly to the HR44 receiver (PVR). The HR44 works, but cannot see the incoming signal. All of the transponders register '0' - I am not certain which of the selections I should use - the system keeps changing to 17 SWM My SWM-3 is SL3S4NR5-01 if any of that helps. The dish is Slimline. Like I said - all of it 'looks' just like what I have on my house.

You maybe said, and I missed it, but if you have a Winegard dish, they have a guide for connections with DirecTV called "Guide for using DIRECTV SWM Technology with Winegard Mobile Satellite TV Antennas".
