The guy is a SOFTWARE developer - this is a HARDWARE mod.
it involves removing the LNB and replacing it with an old CD.
And for higher bandwidth, you can use a DVD or bluray instead of a CD. - Executive45Explorer IIIWhile you cannot access internet with your dish, you can modify it to "enhance" existing internet signals, say from the CG or a nearby MickyDs. Once modified, you'll no longer be able to receive television signals though as it involves removing the LNB and replacing it with an old CD.....Dennis

And it appears it must be an old land-line phone line. My home receiver is on a hard-wired fiber internet connection, but I cannot order PPV via the receiver. I use text on the mobile phone for that.
At home, it is the phone connection that's required and not internet. They just need to be able to bill your account and that's done on the phone line.
Unless I'm doing something wrong, that's what I see. Kinda behind the technology curve...as they are with a few other things irrelevant to this thread. - Bill_SatelliteExplorer IIWith DirecTV it is possible to watch/record the PPV movies without an internet or phone connection. When off the phone line you can either use the internet to access your account and pay for an upcoming PPV movie or you can call them but there is usually a $5 charge for this option. Additionally, at least with DirecTV, if your account is current and you have been hooked up to a phone line, the receiver has a "spending limit" which will allow you to access PPV even when no connection is available (in case of a phone outage). When you reconnect the receiver to a phone line it will upload that info the Dish or DirecTV and bill your account resetting the ability to charge while off-line. If you go over that unknown limit (I believe around $25) nothing bad happens, you just can't order another movie without connection to a phone line, using the internet (setup a My DishTV type account) or making a phone call. - ol__yellerExplorer III apologize if this is a dumb question. I have Dish with the the VP211Z receiver. Where we are now the satellite menu shows PPV channels. Can those movies be downloaded without an Internet connection, or will it record on my home connection? I suspect it will do neither.

No. DH is a developer and not only did we call Dish on this, but researched it and no. Sadly no.
Software developer, as profile states. We too were looking for internet satellite connection without having to buy a more expensive solution. Right now we use a MIFI device so he can work on the road but that depends on WIFI. Next we are purchasing a signal booster. Spend, but will allow us to work on the road. - joebedfordNomad III
