Win XP fan soured on MS
I used to do all kinds of (mostly) work on computers from mainframes to Atari (not commodore), and then mainly Dos and Windows PCs. So I have not been an MS antagonist (but I was a BIG fan of Atari)....

I'm sorry to hear that you just learned that your 2004 system cannot boot from USB. It is common for a Windows system to come with XP preinstalled along with a partition for restoring XP back to the out-of-the-box condition. Have you ever booted from a CD/DVD; do you even have a Windows XP install CD?
How are you doing on creating a live DVD?
You won't get very far running in VBox in XP because you will have two layers of software before you get to bare metal.
