We have been running 10 for a couple of months now...our opinion and experience.... IT'S GREAT.
the article seems to say that the MS scan does a detailed analysis for W10 hard/software compatibility. i wonder if it would have installed the 2 drivers i've discussed here. i know many have had driver issues w/ the upgrade.
but maybe they did not scan?? - downtheroadExplorerThis Windows 10 thing has become gas vs diesel debate...good or bad, should I or shouldn't I

what other drivers should we check if and when we take the W10 gamble?
as it is, W8.1 does well enough for both of us. my toshiba has 8.1. but there's always that lure of the unknown -- not to mention an accidental W10 install due to confusing Microsoft upgrade menus. - RoyBExplorer III had two WIN 7 laptops and two WIN 8.1 laptops to upgrade to WIN 10 One WIN 7 went without a hitch but the other one always stopped at the same WIN 10 load point everytime. We had to refresh the WIN 7 OS which made us download all of the current WIN 7 updates which took a long time to get it to continue through the whole WIN10 process... Works great now...
Roy Ken - burlmartExplorerwe are googling, checking W8.1 menus, and will find the dell code on computer to look at dell drivers...
flipped computer got codes and typing in the codes, dell diagnostics failed and then in another place said diagnostics not available -- at http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/Products/?app=drivers
she found a tab that said 'find it myself', and bam, we got a mic driver and it now works!
working on touchpad...she got it --pinch zoom and scrolling!
thanks, all. - lynndiwagonExplorerGo to the Dell website and go to the support section. If you don't know the service code there is a place to download a program that will detect it for you. After Dell detects your service code there is an area for driver downloads for your model. Both of my Dell computers had no problem with Win10 and I like it.
- burlmartExplorerNot anxious for Win 10. But if it was slick enough to tune-up the Dell, that might be worth it.
mainly, we think our recovery from the HDD crash was sloppy. we used a mix of Windows and Dell recovery stuff, and once Win 8.1 seemed to be running, we felt an uneasy success.
2 things seem off...
1) the touchpad does not do pinch zoom or up/down, left/right scrolls. it moves the pointer and the two buttons do mousey menus. device manager does not seem to show a driver for the pad. maybe it only acts as a pointer mover??
2) martha says microphone works w/ skype. but in google chrome browser, the mic icon for voice search does not respond to voice (like it does on her android phone)
i find Dell's website for tech support hard to understand. also, we ran the dell driver cd rom program 'autorun RCD', but have no ida what it was supposed to do - it just stayed running at about 50% CPU w/ no indication it was ever gonna quit (we ended the process in task manager}
a paper computer user manual telling the machine's features might have helped - ksg5000ExplorerWindows 10 is similar to Windows 7 - both infinity better than Windows 8 which was a Microsoft disaster.
- jerseyjimExplorerWIN 10 is no great thing. My laptop is WIN 7. Works all the time...and,btw,my "shop" tells me this DELL I have would not be able to run 10.
So...like most, when the time comes for a new laptop..it'll come with whatever it will come with.
I have two computer buddies that downloaded (free) 10....they went back to 7 after a few days. Another downloaded 10...and likes it! So.................... - Some drivers are in win 10.
Others will need to be searched and then manually upgraded.
Run the Win 10 compatibility.
Some need to have manufacturer download before Win 10 install.
Check the Dell website!
