Windows 10
Has anyone began the conversion to 10? Problems, comments? Do you know if it loads on top of say, 7, or replaces all of the older version?
Thanks,
Jim

Here are two descriptions on how to turn off automatic updates on Win 8.1 if you are using the default 8.1 interface.
If you are using the Win 7.1 interface you do as rk911 stated.
Turn automatic updating on or off
How To Stop Updates on Windows 8.1
Are you saying you have done this and still are getting automatic updates? It's not happening for me.

I originally said YES to the free Win 10 download when available but have now changed my mind... Is there a way to retract my YES to downloading Win 10 when available?
DD716TED wrote:Yes. You need to go to windows update and fjnd the installed updates. There you will find KB3035583 which needs to be uninstalled. after doing this, KB3035583 will reappear in your updates and you need to make sure it does not get installed again. once you go back and see it waiting to be installed you can hide the update so you will not be bothered again. Changed your mind again later? Just unhide it and install it.

I have yet to find a way to shut off updates in Win 8.1. What you can shut off are app updates but not OS updates - and when it decides to update you can not turn off the computer without letting the update download and install. I just went through this at a campground with limited wifi. If anyone can specify where to set a setting to stop this from happening please share details.
As to updating to Win 10, make a full drive backup first just in case the update stinks worse than 8.1 does.

Bloated I can agree with but no company would ever be so arrogant as to depend on users to find and report problems.
