LibreOffice tends to be updated more often than Open Office. It also supports more MS read/write file formats by default.

This was true until Windows 8. In Win 7, MS made sure that there was a compatibility mode down to DOS, and included Win XP mode on the advanced version of Win 7 to be able to run anything that Win 7 had a problem with. Win 8 dumped all of that.

Businesses want nothing to do with Win 8. Computer sales have fallen at the same time Win 8 was released and continue to fall (the blame is on tablets but that is not why). MS is backtracking now with the new release of Win 8+ beta to try to show that they are recognizing the problems but that has not helped at all. And Win 9 is already in the works. This has happened with MS before - first with Win Millennium, and then with Win Vista. Now with Win 8...

MS stock crashed big time today. Billions of dollars of investments were lost. Wonder why???

I'm looking at all the options. It may be that MS has a download that will fix the issue. If not, I'll consider one of the free downloads.

THAT'S PLAIN STUPID.

There is NO reason to pay yearly FEE for software, that is what I call HOSTAGEWARE. Basically in a nutshell you quit paying for it and it QUITS WORKING rendering ALL of your files useless until you buy or pay the subscription.

As far as getting the latest greatest, really, often times the new versions BREAK things that was working.

Heck I am STILL using Office 2000, I find the newer versions are a royal pain in the rump, especially that stupid "productivity ribbon" which buried ALL the most popular used tools deep within layers of pull down menus. Not to mention every version of M$ Office tends to add more "bloat" to your PC adding in a lot of unneeded garbage along the way.

I personally will no longer PURCHASE M$ Office after using FREE Open Office and I would consider trying Libre if needed.

Free yourself from being a SLAVE to M$ Office, once you try one of the FREE solutions you will be kicking yourself for handing HOSTAGE money over.. :S :B

Word and MsOffice 2002 run just fine on Windows 7.

I too would suggest OpenOffice - it works with a lot of different file formats and works well. Current version is 3.4.1.
