Windows Mail

Wife is running Windows Mail With Vista.
When you open the mail tab there is only a envelope in the fr column.
Normally, it says who it is from and the name but she only has a envelope in that column. How do I correct this.. Thanks.

Forgot to add she is using Gmail too. Not sure if that is important or not.

    wittmeba,
You are the man. You solved my problem. Thanks Ed

    The below was the problem:

This is Windows eMail Client. Might she have accidentally reduced the column size to 0 so the name does not show? If you move the line to the left the column, from and title will disappear.

Also right click the column title bar and make sure the "From" has a check mark to be displayed.

Check for the link pointed to in the title bar of the mail listing.

    Wittmeba,
What you described it what she is doing...You have better described the situation then me. However, I can not figure out what to do to correct the situation..I did go to web mail and everything there is fine. But when it is downloaded to her computer the from is missing and just the envelope appears. If I click on the envelope then all the info is there. Hopefully, I have shed more light on the subject..
  • First I think your reply to Wikitoad is uncalled for.

I too use a gmail account for email and use Windows Mail for my email client. I do not use gmail from my browser. You must configure Windows Mail to access your gmail account by the configuration dialog boxes and provide the proper port numbers.

I suspect if you are viewing email in the browser you are not using Windows Mail. You may think you are using Windows Mail because it is the only email client provided with Vista.

An envelope with no from..... Is usually one of two things.

    1: SPAM
2: SPAM with an attached virus.

    I would trash it.

I also strongly recommend getting rid of your client mail clients and going with web mail.

True story.. Because I do have good anti virus software resident I once tried to download a virus laden e-mail from one of my web mail services.

I gave up, Layer after layer after layer after layer of "Do you really want to download this infected file" prompts,

    Now that's protection.

  • My question is why use Windows mail if she is using Gmail? If she wants multiple accounts you can have Gmail handle both.
