My experience has been exactly as haddy1 posted. If you are pointed in a similar direction it will quickly lock on. If you are pointed in a different direction to start with it takes much longer. There are two campgrounds that I visit every year, one is three hundred miles away and the system locks on in a few minutes. The other is much closer but the system seems to take much longer. I was puzzled until I finally realized that at the furthest campground I was aligned almost exactly the same as I was at home when I checked the system before leaving. The closer campground the alignment was 90 degrees different.
This was a long post to say that it is probably normal operation. Now if you have timed it and it is actually taking 15 minutes that is probably a little too long, but if you are estimating the time I suggest you actually time it.
