Wineows 8 to Windows 7

I spilled something on my keyboard and fried the mother board. I had to buy another computer. I decided to stay with Sony Vaio, since I really liked the computer I had ruined. I purchased a Windows 8 with a touch screen, and hate it. Can I instal my Windows 7 software on the new computer without causing damage or problems. Thank you.

  • If your Sony Vaio came with Windows 8 Pro, then you can downgrade to Windows 7 Pro for Free. Just use the same serial number that came with Windows 8 Pro using a full Windows 7 Pro install DVD, but you will have to call Microsoft to activate before 30 days. You can download Windows 7 Pro .iso file if you don't have access to one.
  • To the OP..
I bought a Vaio Win 8 touch just so I could "learn" the new O/S.
Had 2 laptops on Win 7 that were still working.

Its a learning curve for sure but helps keep my brain cells stagnating..:W
You can always use the classic view that mimics Win 7 pretty close but I find I use the new stuff pretty consistantly now.

One thing I will say, I would not want to use Win 8 on a non-touch screen.

Stick with it and will be no big deal before long.
  • 2 oldman: it looks like it is far more complicated, as I though it would be. I was hoping to put in my Windows 7 disk, and that would be it. I guess I will just continue to grieve foe my Windows 7 system. For the person who asked about "frying" that is the term the tech used. I had a small jar of olives I was snacking on, and when I picked it up it slipped and I had olive juice on my keyboard which leaked to the motherboard. I only know the end result was expensive, and now exasperating dealing with touch and windows 8.

    Is that possible?

Been there done that. Doesn't take much liquid either I spilled less than an ounce of wine. Mother boards die quietly.

On a laptop, all day long.....The motherboard resides under the keyboard and is vulnerable to any spill. Some have a rubber protector under the keyboard, some don't, but even that is not sealed completely.

    Thanks Texan...I wasn't think lap-top...:S
What I am thinking is that I need another cup of coffee...
  • Google windows 8 to windows 7. I was looking yesterday. Apparently you can set up windows classic on windows 8. plus some other free things you can download to stop windows 8 from thinking toooo much. Just like on my smart phone sometimes it thinks too much and is wrong. My smart phone was inserting wrong words into my posts and e-mails. Once I shut down all that stuff it works great. These new computers seem to be geared for the new generation that can't type or spell.
