Yahoo now wants phone# to get an email account

I use only yahoo email accounts to access anything internet. Been doing it for years. This keeps my personal email totally free of spam. I have not had a spam email in my personal email for over 18 ye...

Just to verify, I just created a new Yahoo Mail account, without supplying either a phone number or an alternate email address. I left both requests blank, and just clicked the "Create My Account" button at the bottom of the registration page. So apparently, not required.
