Posting as separate note so everyone can view replies, thinking many who may have interest probably aren't reading my too much bleach question.I'm puzzled how only a couple or a few tablespoons of hydrogen peroxide could "clean" the bleach smell after sanitizing tanks & lines. I've got two 69 gallon fresh water tanks (don't know details how but they're connected, there's only one fill hole). Seems to me that even a whole (quart/liter biggest?) bottle diluted in 138 gallons of water would be way too dilute to do much, if any, good.?

read the label on a bleach bottle. one gal only contains 5% bleach , it only takes a little poison to kill a lot of germs.

It's a chemical reaction kinda thing.I had a 550 gallon spa that had way too much chlorine in it. I could not get the chemicals right because of this. It actually measured off the chart using test strips and nothing I used would bring it down. I did a little research and tried 1/4 cup of hydrogen peroxide and it neutralized the entire 550 gallon in less that 10 seconds. It didn't just bring the levels down, it killed all of it - no smell even. Dont ask me how it works but it does indeed work.

When we used to sanitize dairy milking equipment prior to milk we would normally use 2 oz a 6 1/4 % bleach per 5 gallon of water to kill all the bugs that could possibly grow between each milking, so a cup in a tank of h20 should be plenty.

Great idea! I have two acres completely criss-crossed with mole tunnels! Surely I can live trap a few.

Two questions-
1. How many moles would it take for a 60 gallon fresh water tank (and 6 gallon water heater of course).

2. Will they willingly scoot down the water filler pipe, or do I need to put some slugs in there first to entice them?

We need to be a little careful here. Swimming pool bleach is twice the strength of the bleach you buy in a grocery store.

Just read the labels and compare. Apples and oranges.

I'm skeptical too. I've got a 50 gallon Fresh Water tank and I'd be tempted to suck in at least a gallon. Especially considering the stuff we buy at Walgreens is already pretty dilute.

I dunno. Someone give it a shot and report back.

I just flushed my tank out a half-dozen times. :)

Yes. One mole of something (usually atoms or molecules) is Avogadro's number of them, just as a gross of something (usually not atoms or molecules) is 144 of them.

A mole of an element has a mass, in grams, equal to the atomic weight of the element. (This means, essentially, that a mole of protons or neutrons weighs a gram. It's technically defined in terms of carbon 12, as are the atomic weights, but for many practical purposes one can ignore the mass of electrons and pretend that protons and neutrons alone have mass.)

Yes.
It might be more HP than you need to use but it's cheap and doesn't hurt anything so that will work fine.
