Neither. It should be an E4OD. that would basically be a C6 with O/D

I recently acquired a 1985 Tioga 460 Ford with passing gear not working. Mechanic adjusted linkage and it works fine now.

Check for button on dash which forces transmission into lower gear - used for hills. I wouldn't buy a rig if I had any doubts about the transmission.

Fortunate I guess that the one in consideration is fuel injected. I wonder if the OD is on or off by default?

Our first MH was a 26' 1985 Class C with the 460. It had a carburetor and enough smog gear to power a small city. What a POS. 6 mpg at sea level and about 4.5 in the mountains. There are a lot of mountains in this neck of the woods.

I personally would not consider a Ford 460, particularly one that didn't have fuel injection. I'm quite satisfied with my V-10, whose gas mileage isn't altitude dependent.

That old turkey only had a 3-speed automatic - no "passing gear".

I agree going to treat her nice:-) Thats what I did when I drove it shifted nice but when I put the pedal to the metal and expected a kick down it never happened. Did notice it had the OD button on the shift lever and that also worked good. Made me wonder if they had that in lieu of a passing gear?

Get your local shop to run it on their computer for a code error. I had one that would not go into over drive due to a bad Mass Air Control Valve. They are regulated by a computer.

It may also depend on the speed and RPM. If you are trying to go 60-70 and try to kick it into passing gear it may not go, to protect the engine from over speed. With a 20 year old vehicle I would not flog it. Slow and easy will get you there in one piece.

The plan is to take it in for a complete motor & home inspection, after the house is sold :-)
