Bad Customer Service

Seems that every repair establishment I find is not willing to go out of way at all, doesn't return calls, answers e-mails with bad grammer and punctuation, and incomplete answers. I am having to adjust to just feeling like a number despite the near $100/hr rates being charged.

I've tried to talk to 4 different ones, all the same result.

I've got a guy coming out Monday to do repairs, but only because he was the first I called. No one else has even tried to win the job with any heart. I have over 2k of repairs to have done. They'd rather lose the job than try to accomodate my schedule by coming out on a Sat or meeting me at camper at 5:30pm.

Strange. Must be a very lucrative industry to just be able to pick and choose jobs. I think I am working in the wrong field.
  • I was in a very non-glamorous service business for 30 years.

Look down at me, or feel superior, if you want, but at $100.00/hour back in the 80's,I got to pick and choose whom I worked for, and then laughed all the way to the bank.
  • I always start here first: RV Service Reviews

Most companies advertise their hours. I never expect them to fit my schedule, and hope they can work me in during their advertised business hours: or unless they advertise emergency service after hours, which is normally an additional premium.

Having some extensive modification work completed now. New AC, cabinet modification, new sink.

Found the company that is doing the work through rvservicereviews.com, and have not been disappointed. I will be returning to these folks, when other work is needed.

I probably do more research than most folks on a company before I let them tear into my MH. That's from experience going back to '76. Damn, getting old, holy crap, Batman!

No internet back then, you paid your $ and took your chances and hoped! Now pay the $$, and hope, but hope with a more info going in.

Now, if I can get there, companies with established reputations get my business.
  • Pugslyyy: The repair business IS a good business to be in - can't be exported and word of mouth will keep your weeks full after a few years of building up a customer base.

Good point. I just wish more parents and educators would encourage their kids to take a look at the repair business and trades. Decent/good money and here to stay.

Seems to me like they are busy with work at their respective shops. Unless you are offering to pay them their travel time and mileage they don't have much incentive.

I have a garage (not RV) and we don't do house calls or schedule weekend work either (unless it is for a friend). Everyone deserves their time off with their families.

btw, under $100/hr is quite a good deal. A dealership is going to be more like $125.
  • We have had the same experience with HVAC repairs. Really seems like not too many business's are interested in new customers.
  • You are NOT their only prospective or actual customer. Your having poor service as you have described from four different prospective vendors in and of itself begs a question. Interestingly, another new member first post rant!
