Battery Question

A group 24 battery is not a very large battery. Measure up available size for a battery bank & put as much in there as possible.

Group 27s & 31s are similar. You might even have room for a 4D which will have similar amperage to a pair of 6Vs but only 2 terminals to keep clean.

A Group 24 Interstate per their web page is 73 amp hours at the 20 hour rate... Of those 73 amp hours you can use, safely, perhaps 25 amp hours.. That's not a lot of power and it won't last long

Now if you have room for two of 'em

A GC-2 is almost the same footprint as the Group 24, should fit in the same tray, but it is taller... and two of them in series (they are only six volt) is 220 amp hours at the 20 hour rate give or take 10, and what's more you can safely use half of that or 110 amp hours.

A major improvement (like 4 times the usable power) and the price is not bad either.. Sams' sells decent GC-2's.. Basically repainted Interstate. which is repainted Johnson Controls.

Many valid posts, but my bet is on this one- it's a slightly hidden switch and is an electric heater which means significant electricity draw.

I used to be able to go at least a week with 'everything-but-the-detectors' off.

Here is one not mentioned yet. If your furnace was on, it could drain the battery in just a few hours. So many possibilities.

There are several things that are ON even when they are OFF.

If that single battery is a group 24 MARINE/deep cycle.. that is only about 75 amp hours at best, Not a whole lot of power (Do not believe the label at Wal*Mart) My Factory batteries werew 220 amp hours and their replacement (After 9 years( 230) and I've upgraded by adding more batteries for around 500 amp hours total.

You might want to look into a 31 series, but with nothing obviously on, except for detectors, even a 24 should last more than 4 days, (if it was fully charged).

My 2c. We've got a pair of 12v on ours. I put blade disconnects on both and a dual battery tender, open the circuits when in storage and plug in the battery tender. I do that on all the vehicles not run at least weekly. Greatly extends battery life and, possibly more importantly, the hair-pulling frustrations of finding a dead battery at the worst of times.
