Be aware of driver license requirements in California

Driver license which is very requirement thing in a vehicle.It is most requirement for vehicle Driver.You can always control your bike speed ,which is not more than 55 km.It's only for your safety.

Yes, probably half the toy haulers going down the road are over those weights. Toy Haulers are very popular in California.

Any trailer is limited to a top speed of 55mph in California, not just RVers pulling a trailer.

CHP is not looking for RV'ers doing 60 or 62, they are looking for any driver going 15mph or faster over the speed limit. The reason is the graduated speeding fines in California. If your speed limit is 55, then don't do 70 or your fine doubled. For every 50 RVers doing 65 in a 5 minute period, there is going to be one doing 70 - that is who they are going to get and it is worth their time and the state of California time to wait a few minutes for the one idiot.

A person with a Class A license might want to stay closer to 55mph, don't want to lose that license.

If you are not pulling a trailer and your speed limit is 65mph, don't go 80 or over. Might want to keep it down a few notches below 80.

Never be the fastest driver on the road, make sure you are being passed every once and awhile.

No matter what speed you are going, if the CHP officer thinks you are driving dangerously, you will be ticketed.

Which I found to be a joke this past year. I found myself to be the only rig, be it commercial tractor/trailer, or RV'er, who seemed to drive 55 in CA.

The 55 mph rule is not strictly enforced in Calif, and a CHP buddy of mine says he never looks for RVs going over 55 unless they are really speeding and not going with the flow of traffic. My experience in the last 10 years is 63-65 mph is fine so long as you're going with the flow of traffic. It's one of those things that's on the books and they can write you if they want. Having said that, they WILL crack down on truckers from time to time if it's an area where safety has been a problem.

When I lived in California, I knew people who got tickets for not keeping up with the flow of traffic, even though the flow was speeding. They were going the speed limit.

As for those pointing out how your home-state's DL rules follow you: You can mess that up by having a mixture of DL and vehicle licensing states (i.e. DL in one state, TV/RV licensed in another).

In that case you're initally at the mercy of the LEO's feelings about you and what attracted his/her attention (with the court's ability to sort it out later).

Probably depends on the CHP officer and maybe some look for that. Like I said, my CHP buddy, who works in L.A. btw, does not. On the big interstates, say 4 or more lanes, you're actually limited to the first two lanes and don't have to stay all the way to the right. As I mentioned, I always go 60-63 mph and have never had a problem in 10 years, but they would write me if they wanted. You right, you can go faster in most other states, but the limitations of ST trailer tires keep me in the 60-63 mph range.

Thats all a matter of opinion. I tend to disagree with most but that doesn't have much to do with RV's! The issue is relevant because this IS an RV forum. California isn't very RV friendly in my opinion. Low speed limit laws, lane restrictions, parking restrictions in many counties and cities etc.

Amazing what people get upset about. 2 million families have had their homes stolen by the banksters and no one at Bank of America or Wells Fargo spends a day in court much less in jail. We have the worst educational system, worst transportation system, worst healthcare system, worst communications system, in the industrialized world and you want to throw a tirade over DMV regulations?

To be fair we are number one in the manufacturer, export, and use of weapons of mass destruction on civilian populations. No nation has killed more men, women, and children than the US military over the past 65 years.

I find quite the opposite at least in the Los Angeles area. 55 is strictly enforced there. Makes no difference if flow of traffic is 75+mph. I-5 north of L.A. it doesn't seem to be enforced with the exception of the grape vine (makes sense).
