Best Route to Maine from Delaware

Good morning all! I am leaving on our first long RV adventure ( 30 ft travel trailer) We are new to RV'ing and most of our last 6 trips have been within a 3 hour radius. I am seeking information on the best route to Maine. When we travel by car typically we go up to 287 across the tappan zee to 684/84. Are trailers allowed across the tappan zee? I was seeking a more relaxing route. Any advice?

    I-95 all the way

Big mistake. I-95 takes you across the George Washington Bridge to the Cross Bronx Expressway onto the Bruckner Expressway and to the New England Thruway. Other than some interstates in LA, absolutely the worse stretch of roads in the country. The Cross Bronx is a maze of construction and lane shifts. I-95 through CT is 2 lane and when a 18 wheeler decides it's time to pass another it becomes a 5 mile rolling roadblock. The I-95/I-91 interchange in New Haven has been under construction for 20 years.

You should be able to use your car route across the Tappan Zee. From there I would take I-684 to I-84 to the Mass Pike, I-290 to I-495 to I-95 in Salisbury and continue into Maine on I-95.
  • Yes, trailers are allowed over the Tappan Zee. We've gone that way many times. Not sure there is a more "relaxing" route to get south. You might want to ask the mod to move this to Roads and Routes-you might get more/better answers there.
