Boat or RV ?

Well, you asked the question on an RV forum, so obviously folks here like RV's... As for us, we've always owned boats, and hopefully always will. RV's are very nice, but nothing beats relaxing on a boat.

I prefer owning a nice used RV and boat, than an expensive new one of either.

Boating is a whole different animal than RV'ing. Depends on what you want to do.

We have both. Prefer the rv. We can go visit so many nice places with the rv. The boat we have is not one you can live on. Camping is just a blast and we meet so many nice people from everywhere. The boat is just for going out and hot rodding on the water or tubing/ skiing.

Where you live I'd buy an RV. I lived in CA for 40 years. We had a real boat & sailed the ocean. Now owning a Columbia sloop is a kick. Especially when you live a mile from the ocean. Sailing up & down the coast and Catalina on weekends.

For me, an RV could be year-round, as I could be anywhere. Without the RV, I'd be in snow/winter for 4+ months per year, so I would get much less use from the boat.

We retire in January and will be hitting the road for two years by RV. Then we will spend a year doing the great loop on a boat. We have been rv traveling for two years now; we boat traveled for two years before that (vacations and weekends for both). We had the benefit of living on the chesapeake bay and having a boat small enough that it could be towed to places like the keys and the outer banks.

Honestly, there is a much smaller learning curve to an RV than there is to a boat. You already know how to drive and you know the rules of the road. For a boat, you will need to learn navigation, tides, docking, and driving. And that is just a power boat - a sailboat takes even more learning (wind, sails, tacking, etc.).

You might try renting an RV for a week or two, then doing a bareboat charter or something similar for a week or two. Both will give you an idea of what is in store and will give you a taste of the different types of living.

Notice your from Missouri - the state with many lakes! maybe you can buy a used one of both? we currently have too many boats with one for sale because we spend too much time at Table Rock Lake. We started with a used boat and cab over truck camper and then the camper got bigger a few years later

RV will allow you to go to a variety of places and stay comfortably. You can always rent a boat when you get there or carry an inflatable like the Sea Eagle models.

We have had our Class A for a year+ and we really enjoy it. We wanted it to see the country as we are planning for retirement. Our plan is to go to national parks and take grand kids with at times and maybe a trip to Disney. All depends on what you want boat was not in the discussion for us. Good Luck!
