Of course it's doable, with todays ridiculous air fares, it'll be extremely expensive(I never would), but my question would be Why ? Unless you have to go back to work, many folks stay gone 2-3 or 4 months at a time. Just learn how to close up the house for an extended absence, have a close friend or relative to keep an eye on things and enjoy the trip.
Broken up into 2-3 weeks at a time will be a major pain, you'll be doing more driving than enjoying, (unless your staying put for a couple weeks at a time).
