check lists

My husband and I have been told we will have our Motorhome in 3 weeks, killing us waiting, we are hoping things go faster. Anyway, as we are completely green and have no problem putting our hand in the air asking for help. Does anyone have any set up and departure list they would not mind sharing, that they have gotten down to a science. We are going to try our best not to pull out of a site with something still hooked up...lol.

  • This is a fifth wheel list but should be very helpful.http://www.winfieldrvproducts.com/TIPS_FOR_FIRST_TIMERS.html
  • if you go to the top of this page to the RVing FAQ section and look around you will find places to click on for check lists for all matter of problems. good luck, and hope you enjoy our life style.
  • I used to have a full page checklist for my TT. When I got my class C, I decided I wanted something simpler. CampingWorld has RVMinders that are inexpensive and wrap around the steering wheel.

They have pre-made ones for windows/doors/vents, ladders/steps, slideouts, hookups, etc. I use the ones applicable for my RV and then stuck stickers on the unused ones (there are also 2 blanks) for other things I care about, such as Propane On.

When I arrive at a site, I set up and then slap the RVMinders onto the steering wheel. When I leave, I check the RVMinders on my steering wheel and remove each one as I verify the item (e.g., as soon as I unhook the hookups, I remove the Hookups RVMinder).

Knock on wood, I haven't missed anything since I started using these.
  • Ohh, you'll pull out with something down at least once, hopefully it just doesn't break bad! :)

My wife and I have tried many checklists, we've found the best list comes from a base that you create yourself and that you add to with each trip.

The problem you run into is the last trip plays a roll into what needs to happen on this trip. That's usually something to do with bedding and such. We don't handle our bedding the same each time, so we have to either take or leave home based on what's already on the rig.

We have 2 school aged kids and we've found the idea that there will be enough time to re-pack after getting back from a trip doesn't work. Someone always comes back sick or maybe we're just too lazy!

But, after repetition you just kinda get into a habit.
