4 inches of memory foam will help the jack knife's comfort level, although it won't do anything for the length, agree with others on the cabover, if your son is young, don't worry about it, a sleeping bag is probably enough, a child can get comfortable a lot easier than an adult, I remember falling asleep just laying on the ground, (without a sleeping bag). If I tried it now, I'd need help getting back up. :(
