Colorful map "rules"

Its whatever rule YOU decide. Some people place a sticker if they simply traveled through the state, some if they stayed overnight, and some only if that state was a "destination", not simply an overnight stop.

We don't have a map yet, so we haven't discussed protocol yet!

The rules are whatever you want.
Some count an overnight stay, others count or taking the RV to, or through, the state. Others have their own rules.

Chose what works best for you. The important thing is, enjoy your travels.
Nothing is etched in stone. :)

The wife is always right in my house, and allowed me to drive the big truck.

We don't have one, but my parents did. I don't think there is any set rule. It's really, whatever is meaning for you.

Some put the state on when they simply drive into it, or seeing an attraction in the state, saying they've been there and that's all. Others attach the state when they've spent a night.

It's really your decision and what is meaningful to you.

Some show the state's they passed thru..... all the way to you have to live there.
You make your own rule.

In our RV, we have to sleep in the RV in the state to color it in. There is one exception. We tent camped in Hawaii and count that. We are not going to ferry the RV over just to color a map.

Our rule is we have to stay in a campsite in the camper to color in a state. Spending the night in a Walmart parking lot or Truck Stop doesn't count on our map.

That pretty much covers it right there. :)

All I did with the state map stickers was place on the tongue of OFF-ROAD POPUP trailer just for the states the trailer has camped in... This does not count for the states that I may have driven through heading for the camp ground location. Then up on the outside of the access door area I found the same type of stickers from the various campground we have visited and I have my favorite camp ground stickers near my trailer access door...

The first photo needs to be updated as I have camped in two additional states since the photo was taken... Again these state stickers only relates to where this POPUP trailer has camped in... These stickers was placed on the trailer probably in 2010 and are just now starting to show wear and tear... Guess they last forever haha...

I just updated my signature file just last month showing my updated States Camped in map with the POPUP trailer in this case. I have camped in almost the whole south with the exception of LA...

I think our "rule" will be that if we spend the night in a state AND if that stay warrants a note/story in my wife's diary/blog for the trip. I am almost certain that my wife will dictate that we stay at a campground of some sort and not just a parking lot. She's already said "What's the point of getting the RV if we stay at truck stops or rest areas? There are plenty of campgrounds everywhere and lots to see on the way to our destination." I love that she looks at the trip to our final destination as an adventure in itself.

We have made the trip from Alabama to SD a few times to visit her parents. We have always taken 2 days and be up at the buttcrack of dawn to start each day of driving. Now with the RV, she is saying we can take the same trip in 3-4 days and stop see things on the way. Mainly because she in not couped up in a truck.

I like the idea of getting stickers from the campgrounds (if they have them).
