DC area- ready to rent first travel trailer. Advice?

Right after I posted this, I found out my local Army base rents almost new Keystone Outback Terrain 299 TBH RV's. They are permanently located in the RV park so no trailering or setup required. I booked us for a weekend so at least we can see what life is like in an RV park and living in a trailer for a couple of nights. It should be a good step in the right direction.

We camp host at Point Lookout SP which is just south of Solomon's, on Rt 5. It is about 15 miles from Lexington Park from the intersection of Rt 4 from Solomon's and Rt 235, which will run into Rt 5 about 5 miles north of the park.

It has lots of water, being on the bay and the Potomac, a wonderful nature center for the kids, lots of fishing, crabbing, canoe.

There are 6 different camping loops, 1 with FHU (full hookups: water, electric and sewer), a couple with limited electric hookups, but water available, 1 with cabins, and two others with no services. Each of them, other than the FHU loop has newer bath houses that are clean.

I don't know anything about rentals in the area, so can't help on that front.

I really liked cherry hill rv park. Nice people. Big campground. Great pool. And you can rent golf carts, which is so much fun!

I didn't see this until after I posted, but if you go, have a great time. Keep Point Lookout for a future trip.

we camped in early August at JEB-Little Creek a military campground just north of VA Beach. Ridiculously cheap ($22/night for elect/water), <2 miles from a calm beach on post on the bay, <1 mile from commissary. We checked out the boardwalk on VA beach and tried some breweries in Norfolk. Highly recommend.

Thanks for the advice everyone! If/when we get our own trailer, we'll be sure to check out the recommended areas. Are there any "get away from it all" places in western virginia or even west virginia? I don't know much about RV trailers yet, but I figure we could dry camp for a weekend and I have a Honda EU2000 generator to keep the lights on.

We liked Cherry Hill as well. Lots of fun stuff to do for the kids. Two pools, one more kid oriented.

Check out CoE (Corps of Engineers) campgrounds in that area, Zimm. Very cool!
