DEF tank

New owner of a 2016 Navion 24G and was wondering if this RV has a DEF tank and how often it needs to be filled and where the input tube is located on the vehicle? Thanks.

Doesn't that have a Mercedes diesel engine? I would hope that they would have located the DEF filler next to the fuel filler cap. Having it under the hood is not going to be very convenient.

Having it under hood is a good thing.

Folks that have it inside the same compartment as fuel filler have made the mistake of putting DEF into diesel fuel tank. OR putting diesel into DEF tank. Check out some FORD 6.7 DEF/Diesel Issues

DEF is WATER & Urea. BIG $$$ damage can occur to fuel pump, fuel lines, injectors

Diesel into DEF tank.......can destroy the SCR catalyst.

Having DEF filler under hood is a good thing.

I guess that could be possible (as the saying goes....can't fix stupid). I think it would be hard to get a diesel nozzle into a 1" DEF inlet. If you were dumb enough to be doing that it seems you would immediately realize something wasn't right when diesel was spewing all over the place.

As far as putting DEF into a inlet clearly marked "DIESEL", well what can I say.....

Agree, I like the location...especially if I get my DEF at the pump, which is MUCH cheaper than purchasing the 2.5 gallon jugs, (I paid $2.69 a gallon this morning for DEF).

It would be near to impossible to get the smaller diesel nozzle into the DEF filler neck, and completely impossible to get the larger nozzle in....The small blue cap over the DEF filler neck also screws into place..This is the first DEF truck I"ve owned and I've never come close to putting DEF into Diesel filler neck or diesel in DEF tank, (again, I don't even see how a diesel nozzle, (smaller one), could go into DEF filler neck, at least not on my truck.

If under the hood, I hope its located where you can't make a mess when putting DEF into tank.

Wouldn't it make sense to read the owner's manual for something you just spent close to $100k on?

  • You will get a warning light when DEF needs to be added. Pick up 2.5 gallon DEF at Walmart, Tractor Supply or auto parts store. Filler is under the hood labeled DEF. If you spill any just rinse well with water.
  • PDI is pre delivery inspection, done by the dealer prior to placing the vehicle on the lot for the customers to look at, this entails installing certain items that do not come attached and making sure that all is as it should be done, the dealer should not charge for this, it is included in the sales price.

The dealer should have done a walk trough with the customer and showed and indicated all the features on the RV, how to turn on the cabin and water heater, the air conditioner(s), turn the stove on, what all the dash features are, how the slides work and out side the awnings if manual or electric, and also where the engine and transmission dip sticks are and where to fill the various liquids including the DEF.

If the dealer did not do all of this the PDI and the WALK TROUGH that dealer is not good at all.

When I worked at a SAAB dealer I did lots of PDI's and never had a come back nor did we have warranty problems with my vehicles, once the car was sold I did a walk through with the customer and showed them all the features.

When we bought our present unit, they did a walk trough with us very thorough.

You didn't get that info during the PDI?
  • Diesel engine..YES it uses DEF

Look under the hood for filler tube.

In mean time...get out your new owners manual and READ it. LOTS of really good information.
