Dewinterization in Campground

Never saw 1/4" petcocks, only 1/2" valves. Do slobs have the smaller petcocks installed?

Now you have SEEN one,3/8"/1/2" NPT thread aside, the business end is about 1/4".

All the slobs should also abstain from hitting the windshield washer button when a car is within 150' of their rear bumper also I assume.

Next time I am leaving on Sunday afternoon, I think I'll just open the valves early while packing up when I have 60 gallons or so left, and slob up the site for the next guy....

Sure hope it doesn't rain and mother nature leaves her mess on your vehicle.

Perhaps I should let it drain on the campsite and turn it into a mudpit for the next guy, or sit at the dump station for an hour while others wait and drain it down the honey hole?

I could do this at a campground but considering the time involved, I like to do it before my first camping trip. To dewinterize, I plug the HW tank, fill the water tank and run some water through the lines to remove the antifreeze. I then drain the tank. My drain is slow and that alone takes about 1/2 hour. I then refill the tank and include bleach to sanitize the system. I again run some water through all the lines including at least exchanging some of the water in the HW tank. I allow at least a 2 hour soak with the bleach. Then I need to rinse out the bleach by draining and refilling both the water tank and the HW tank at least twice. The whole process takes the better part of a day.

I ‘de-winterize’ 4 to 6 times a year, it’s complicated.....

Add water.

I blow the lines clear just before / after hitting freezing temps on the way north, and add water just before / after hitting above freezing temps on the way south.

I may be taking a big risk doing it this way, and I may regret it one day......

But then again I’ve only doing it this way for 35 or so years, time will tell.

I do the same thing to finish draining the tank. Do you have any idea how little that dribble is or how diluted it is even if it has a little chlorine in it? Most low point drains are not even 3/8" diameter pipes.
