Dishes in our TT

As this will be my first experience traveling and camping in a TT, I am wondering about traveling with dishes. We picked up some corelle dishes and my wonderful husband wants me to pack the dishes in a separate box (like moving) instead of leaving in the cabinet as he says they will all be broken. We are not going boon docking on this first trip, nor any time soon. Please let me know how all of you deal with your dishes?

Thank you to a newbie!

  • We just lined our shelves with the no stick rubbery shelf liner from the dollar store and glasses and mugs sit opening down, plates are stacked. No dividers of any kind or things stuffed between and so far , nothing has broken. (2 1/2 yrs of fulltiming).
  • relax. I lined the shelves with the non-skid shelf liners from walmart. I have a set of cheap walmart dishes. I simply stack 'em on top of each other without any dividers. We've been all over the US and to Alaska and back (talk about rough roads!!!). Just put all the glass coffee cups on the shelf liner too. Nothing has broken yet. Once you've been travelin' for a while, you realize you've worried about nothing.
  • We have traveled all over the country with our Corelle. I stack them, then wrap a bathtowel around them. Also tuck towels, washcloths, pillows, etc in the cupboard to prevent shifting. We have never had any trouble.
  • We started traveling three years ago in a fifth wheel and I had concerns about dishes breaking but we have never had a problem. We went to Alaska on some rough roads and everything was great.Your going to enjoy having your TT it's so nice crawling in in a bed at night and not sleeping on the ground...
  • I use Corelle and put a paper plate between each Corelle plate. Never broke one yet. For coffee cups and glasses, I hit the dumpster at the local grocery. Everything they stock that's breakable comes in a box with cardboard dividers. Grab a few and cut them down so they aren't any higher than what you're storing. The sticky shelf liner stuff keeps everything from sliding around.
  • Thank you all...I am going to leave them in the cupboards with the dividers. As someone who grew up on boats, we never packed up our dishes and in 10-15 foot seas with a 3 foot chop in a 45' boat, we got bounced around plenty and never broke one of the corelle dishes. They did shift a bit during travel.
  • HGL,

I guess you don't know that the ride in a TT is nothing car-like. If you are going to carry Corelle, at least put something between the pieces. Corelle may be difficult to break, but when it does, look out. Very Sharp parts come out at high speeds.

We have carried Corelle on occasion and most of it survived. But it was padded.

  • Tell the hubby he can relax,LOL

I have all corelle dishes. They just sit stacked in the pantry. So do the ceramic mugs, pans and glasses.

I did line the pantries with that plasticky material that stops anything from sliding. You can get it at walmart or cheaper at a dollar store

The only time anything gets packed up is at the end of the season.

I have had the same type of dishes camping with tent, truck camper and T trailer nothing broke in 25 years.
  • We put all the dishes, glassware, etc in the cupboards. We stack the plates, and we set the glass ware on anti-skid pads with the opening down. We travel down some really rough dirt roads when we go boondocking and we've never broken a dish. Just be careful when you open the cabinets after a rough ride. Like they say on the airlines, "Some items may have shifted during flight".
