36 years using water from a public spigot, and no problems.
We don't drink out of our faucets (use bottled water for drinking), but we do wash dishes and brush our teeth with them. Still no problems.
My trusted RV service tech laughed when I asked how much they charge to sanitize the RV water system. He said they would gladly charge me $99 to do it, but he has been RV'ing for over 50 years and has never done it on his own RV. In his words, "most people just hook up, run the water for a few seconds, and enjoy camping."
