- Redterpos3ExplorerThis year my awning was out during a rain storm. Water collected faster than I realized, and ended up bending my roller. It's still useful, but wobbles as it comes out and retracts. What I noticed was that my awning is quite long, When I have to change it out (can you buy just the roller tube?) i've been considering two shorter units to cover both doors (currently only one door), and each individual awning would be shorter and possibly have less chance to hold so much water. This is only my 2nd year, so not sure if my thinking is good on this one.
- 2gypsies1Explorer IIISince you're going with New Horizons you might want to consider window awnings, also. We actually use them more than the big awning especially if we're on the move.

If you were to buy a new RV, would you pay for this option? Or is this just a waste of money?
Like others I wouldn't buy a camper without one but I would definitely only have a manual awning. I have had both and prefer the manual because you can change the angle better which allows you to hide from the rain better. My current 20 foot power awning only goes straight out. If the wind blows very hard I get wet while I'm grilling. - HalmfamilyExplorerWe use our awning on every trip. Press a button and its out in 15 seconds what could be easier. It I know rain is coming I'll tilt the.awning to the rear for drainage.
We also use an EZ UP canopy to sit down by the lake. The EZ UP are very strong. I had to pull ours out of a tree Saturday morning after the wind blew it across the backyard and 10' up into a tree. Amazingly no damage. - Ron3rdExplorer III

I would not even consider a trailer without an awning.
Same here. - IAMICHABODExplorer II
- wingsfan20ExplorerHaving an awning adds to your personal space. With out the awning it seems that you are sitting out in the middle of a field. With an awning you have a room. We also have a Patty O'Shade which adds to the effect.
- AceiExplorerActually, while at it, is there any awning manufacturer that builds a particularly good awnings?
- AceiExplorerFor those who are wondering which RV has the optional awning, I'm considering going with New Horizon for their 5th wheel, so I can pretty much specify what I want. I was curious if those awnings are a gimmick or they actually are useful. Sounds like they are. Thanks everyone for commenting your experiences!
- nomad297ExplorerI love my manual awning.
